He was born on this day exactly 47 years ago. In preparation of creating this tribute track, I spent a day listening to both his own work and the work of the artists he sampled. One of the songs that immediately struck a chord with me was Here's That Rainy Day by The Paul Horn Quintet, an atmospheric jazz fusion tune recorded in 1966, which Nujabes sampled for his score of the legendary anime series Samurai Champloo. Using the intro loop as the backbone of my song I continued to layer it with tiny chops from other tunes he sampled as well as my own live instrumentation. The result is a raw, atmospheric boom bap beat that I hope will contribute to keeping Nujabes' legacy alive. Thomas Schillebeeckx aka Poldoore (*1988) is a Belgian-born music producer, audio engineer and sound designer whose work is characterised by a dreamy, melancholic feel. With a total of over 200 million streams, Belgian producer and DJ Poldoore’s music has always appealed to a broad demographic around the world. Through the meticulous use of his home studio full of analog curiosities while also relying on sampling and chopping up live instrument recordings, Poldoore has over the years developed a unique sound that seamlessly bridges numerous musical styles and eras, and draws the listener into a constantly moving auditive soundscape. His debut album Street Bangerz Vol. 6: Playhouse was picked up by Los Angeles-based downtempo label Cold Busted in 2012 (featuring hit single But I Do which has to date gathered over 30 million streams on Spotify) and quickly won him fans across the globe.
