Hourglass feat. ASM out now
The first single of my forthcoming album Soft Focus is out today.
The key sentiment behind Hourglass, the first single of forthcoming album Soft Focus, is a sense of dreamy nostalgia. Accompanied by globetrotting ultra-lyrical duo ASM (A State Of Mind), I sought a return to the snappy boom bap sound of hip-hop’s Golden Era with a dynamic production that is dominated by crunchy drum wizardry and soulful sample selection.
The rhymes to Hourglass are a hazy gaze into the past, sometimes rose-tinted, sometimes wistful. In moments of taking stock on the road that brought us to the present, there are definitive forks and unexpected glimpses of memory that bubble to the surface. Full of sadness, full of beauty is the past...
For the accompanying video I I met up with ASM on an idyllic farm in the outback of Germany during the summer. We hung out, sampled the finest natural wines, threw a DJ/pizza party during sunset and shot the video for Hourglass. To give the footage that nostalgic, analog vibe we recorded the video entirely on a super 8 camera from 1976.
